How many Hyundai Plug In electric cars has the company sold in the last 10 years?

Hyundai Motor Group – comprising Hyundai, Kia, and Sex – has successfully sold 1 million Hyundai Plug-In electric vehicles since its first launch more than 10 years ago.
South Korean press sources said sales of Hyundai Plug-in electric vehicles had reached 1.02 million by the end of December 2022, more than a decade after the release of its first Hyundai Blue On vehicle.
The Blue On was first introduced in July 2011 in South Korea, at which time it was a standard fully electric car with a 16.4 kWh battery and a barely 160 km range.
Hyundai Motor’s sales by the end of 2022 were as follows:
- Hyundai Motor (Hyundai and Sex): 601,448 cars
- Kia: 420,836 cars
These figures include the sale of 371,838 cars in 2022, a huge growth compared to sales of 101,362 cars in 2019.
Some estimates indicate that Hyundai has sold between 800 thousand and 850 thousand fully electric Plugin cars since 2011, with the remaining number of hybrid cars.
Hyundai’s most popular models in terms of sales were:
- Hyundai Kona Electric: 256,907 cars
- Kia Nero EV: 200,302 cars
- Hyundai Ionic 5: 165,637 Cars
These figures come between Hyundai Motor Group on the path to a complete transition towards electric vehicles.
